My husband and I,

took out our 16′ aluminum boat on Mayfield Lake

near Mossyrock WA in Lewis County.

This is the underside of the Highway 122 bridge

spanning the mouth of the Tilton River

where it joins the Cowlitz River

and Mayfield Lake.

I haven’t posted in my blog in a very long time,

about nine months.

In that time,

we bought a home in Morton WA,

a lovely small logging town

nestled in the green fir covered foothills of the Cascade Mountains.

We are about thirty miles from each of these three volcanoes,

Mt. Saint Helens to the south, Mt. Adams to the southeast

and Mt. Rainier to the northeast.

Our half acre of property sits about a 75 yards

from the gurgling Tilton River at about 1,000 feet in elevation.

After buying our new home,

we spent six weeks painting and repairing our home in Seattle,

putting it on the market on August 1st,

the open house was August 6th and the house sold

on August 8th for more than our asking price,

and closed on August 30th.

We paid of the mortgage in total

on our new home in Morton with the proceeds.

We are still unpacking some things,

but most of the house is put together,

except for my art room and that’s my next project.

I hope to post once in a while

now that things are settled down

to normal daily life.

~Blessings Always~

  1. Sounds like you were able to take good advantage of the housing craziness in the Seattle area. How very nice to not have a mortgage. We are about 6 months behind you as we plan to sell our home in the burbs of Seattle and head east to Colville where we will be able to live without a mortgage, too. I was driving on Lake Washington Blvd under the I-90 bridge and thought it would be an interesting shot but alas I couldn’t stop to take the photo. Bummer. Your photo reminds me of what I saw. Blessings to you in your new home!

    1. Yes Ellen, I agree with you! I do think we hit the market at the right time. Perhaps in the future the real estate market in Seattle will continue to climb, or perhaps not, but we did well on a home we purchased in 1988 for $74,500, giving us more than enough to pay outright for the home we bought in Morton. Colville is a beautiful area, my son goes deer hunting up there every year and usually comes home with a buck. I hope you’re able to take advantage of the housing boom too and find your perfect place east of the mountains. Thanks for visiting!
