I went for a very short drive
down into the Kent valley to a wetland near the O’Brien cemetery
and saw this heron standing in the marshy area
near South 212th St.
I had to park a couple blocks away
and only packed my camera with the 400mm lens,
not my tripod, but I wish I had.
Out of a dozen shots,
this was the best one.
A tripod would have made them all keepers.

The foliage around the wetland
is beginning to show the signs of autumn,
as the days grow shorter
and cooler.

Looks like he’s looking for some food. I’ve forgotten my tripod before so I know how you feel.
Glorious photo – so bright and clear. I have found a wonderful small tripod – called a Gorilla Pod – it has very flexible legs – is just over a foot tall – the legs can bend to attach to a limb – or a chair arm, etc and it really gives me much better shots than without a tripod, especially when my big tripod is not there. I sometimes use it while in the car taking pictures – it can rest on my chest or on the door or anyplace that is handy for steadying it – makes a huge difference in the clarity of the shots. I got mine from amazon and love it – it rides in the car at all times. I also carry a bigger tripod too – just in case.
