Ghost : ɡōst : Writ.ing : rīdiNG : vintage painting upon a building facade that has weathered and essentially refers to businesses and products that have long been defunct.

I’m not sure
where the term ‘ghost writing,’
came to refer to the old fading painted advertising on buildings,
but it does seem to define it.

Here, on my last trip to the Palouse,
in the small town of Palouse, in Whitman County,
I’ve captured some very nice ghost writing on the red brick facade
of an old building on main street with a
very short false front.
: : :
The town was incorporated in 1888,
with an initial population of 148,
reaching it highest population during the Great Depression of 1,551
and in the 2010 census was 998 souls.
With that in mind,
I wonder when ‘The Palouse News,’
was last published.
: : :
I’ve been to a the two antique shops in town,
and have brought home a couple items
one a lovely old mirror
that is in my
front room.
: : :
They also have one of the nicest public restrooms
of any small town I’ve ever been in.
(That’s a funny review, isn’t it?)
One thing I absolutely love about these little towns
and the open rural spaces,
is people always take the time to ask if everything is okay
if you’re stopped someplace,
a refreshing change from the anonymity
of metropolitan Seattle.

~Blessings Always~
A lovely old building. I have always enjoyed the old places with the advertising on the side. Interesting about the town also. I would also enjoy going into the two old antique shops.
I have a weakness for the old myself. Buildings, towns, habits…
Wonderful shot – I love finding ghost writing on old buildings. We are hoping to get over to the Palouse in the spring.
I miss seeing those. So lovely!
I’ve never heard that referred to as “ghostwriting” before, I thought that was what I got when my printer wasn’t working properly. However, your ghostwriting looks a lot more picturesque than mine!
It does seem appropriate to refer to those old advertisement signs as ‘ghost writings’. I really like your photo. It does have me wondering though why it appears to have a brand new set of double doors, but no steps?
Happy Sunday! Have a great week.
