Here,
just on the outskirts of the small,
central-eastern Washington town of Almira,
on Old Coulee Road,
stands a new metal post with old weathered wooden signs
pointing the way to a number of farms and ranches,
such as Earl Heathman, John Heathman, Scott Heathman,
Mike Edwards, Bill Edwards, Joe Schrock,
Willis Schrock and more.
Some now virtually unreadable.
Seeing a number of multiples of the same surname
makes me wonder if a larger farm or homestead
was split up between sons of
the next generation.

New lifting the old
Steel spine supports fam’ly farm
Sowing and reaping
that sign has been there for a VERY long time!
It is an eye catching image. Like it loads.
Interesting that the post is new and the signs are old…love it!
Oooo I love this! Great find!
So many places to go. And all in the same direction!
What a great photo. Loving the weathered markers, the puffy clouds and the pretty purple wildflowers.
What a great find. Love the ideas of families building on/near the same land. Oh how we adore Eastern WA and the treasures that are there. I still prefer living on the wet side (well some years is it wet) but love to explore the eastern side. The fires there are the saddest thing – burning near Palouse Falls is so scary – and the town being evacuated – my heart goes out to those involved.
