Des Moines Cinema – Weekly Top Shot #167

The Des Moines Cinema - Des Moines WA

Closed : klōzd : [adjective] : not open, or having ceased trading.

‘The Des Moines,’

was a neighborhood movie theater in the small, central

western Washington town of Des Moines,

nestled on the shores of Puget Sound’s

Poverty Bay.

:  :  :

Opening its doors

to theater goers in the early spring of 1947 and seating 400,

it provided film entertainment for

over three generations.

The decor and stage remained

true to the 40’s era until it closed in 2012.

Here,

late one night prior to closing,

the theater’s retro green neon sign shines almost eerily

out into the rainy night,

reflecting upon the red brick facade.

‘The,’ formed in neon Gothic Black Letter style, has gone out, rather

like the theater itself, sputter, blink, blink and gone.

My hiatus is over and I am excited

to be back in the blogging groove again,

especially after having sold two images very recently,

one of some SeaLand chassis for a rotating website banner

and the other an early pre-dawn shot of CenturyLink field

for a Seattle quarterly magazine.
