Irrigation: ir·ri·ga·tion [ir-i-gey-shuhn] noun: the artificial application of water to land to assist in the production of crops.

Here,
near the Potholes in central Washington,
fields are already being irrigated for the growing season.
: : :
I stopped and shot a couple of images
of the huge commercial sprinklers that are self propelled
and move in a large circle,
irrigating as they move.

Here,
I’ve pulled one image in to 100% resolution
so all we see are two of the heads dispersing droplets
of life giving water onto
a crop of alfalfa.

Nice capture! See these all the time but never up close like this.
Cool! Very few farmers in our part of Wisconsin had irrigation systems when I was a kid. Now, especially those who have sandy soil, have huge irrigation systems and just about every square foot of land has corn planted, even if it means tearing down an old homestead. I realize that farmers often can’t afford to keep up the buildings (and will only be taxed more if they do) and they’re guaranteed a market for their corn through the Ethanol mandate (hardly an offer they can refuse), but it’s still sad to see those old homesteads rapidly disappearing from the landscape.
I had to look long and hard before I figured out what those were, Madge! It could have something to do with the fact that it is POURING here!!!….:)JP
Neat shot!
I love your photos because they are so similar to those I take :) I’m sure that Hubby scratches his head a lot when he watches me take shots because they would be those, like yours, that most people would ignore.
Very nice shot.
Was für ein interessantes Foto.
Ausdrucksstark, tolle Farbgebung.
Madge, We have those big irrigation systems here, too. They are a sight to see, crossing the fields. I have often wanted to stop the car and take a picture.
I sort of copied your post style without intention :) Hope you don’t mind.
Great shot. Those irrigation monsters always get my attention. I have not been able to get a good opportunity to capture one when actually spraying. And, sorry that my link is not very rural. I linked the wrong post. Oh, well.
Thanks for hosting. Brought up in a mixture of rural and small town urban. Live in the country now.

Oh my goodness Madge… This is awesome! Such a great capture!
