Riding the Tractor with Dad -- Near LaCrosse WA

Ride: rīd/ [verb]: to be carry along or be supported by something else.

:  :  :

Here,

along Highway 26 near LaCrosse,

in rural eastern Washington,

a father takes his small son for a ride on an older tractor,

while grading a strip of pasture.

:  :  :

I had stopped along the highway to shoot something else,

when from a small farmstead a hundred yards or so away,

I heard an engine start,

and then this tractor began to make its way down

a gentle slope towards me.

When I began shooting this farmer,

I didn’t realize he had his small son in his lap,

a cute little towhead in a bright orange hoodie,

simply a sweet capture

by my measure.
