M/V Klahowya - Puget Sound - Washington

Gliding almost silently, the M/V Klahowya pushes towards the landing at Vashon Island.

WSDOT,

(Washington State Department of Transportation)

runs the largest fleet of ferries in the US.

It is the third largest in the world.

Whenever I take a ride across Puget Sound

in one of our ferries,

I feel like I’ve left on vacation,

even though it is not

far in miles.

Here,

having just pulled out of the Vashon Island ferry dock

on board the M/V Tillikum,

I stood at the rail taking photos

in a cold wind that thoroughly chills you to the bone in minute.

I caught the M/V Klahowya,

(a 310′ Evergreen Class ferry capable of carrying 87 vehicles)

as she makes her approach to Vashon

before throttling down to dock.

The M/V Klahowya is usually assigned to the

route running between

Southworth (on the Kitsap Peninsula),

Vashon Island (in central Puget Sound),

and Fauntleroy (on the mainland in West Seattle).

It seems all the major holidays

have fallen on Wednesdays and Thursdays,

New Year’s is no exception.

There will be no ‘Rurality Blog Hop,’

while my family and I

wind down from the

holidays.

:  :  :

Wishing you and yours

all the best

in the

new year!

    • Ruth Hiebert: I love that scene. This kind of road is one I would love to check out.
    • John: The low viewpoint works well here. It’s a beautiful time of year, which in the UK seems to get later, and hang around longer, each year.

    • JoAnn M Bayne: Absolutely glorious. I am surprised by the amount of color this year. I expected after the dry summer we’d have just dead leaves dropping but it has been stunning – as...
    • Evelyn A Spikes: The colors of fall have been truly wonderful this year, Madge. It’s nice for the killing frosts to come after the foliage has turned, instead of before. We have two old big...
