Here,
at Fishermens’ Terminal in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle,
an American Flag is in tatters,
it is frayed,
worn out and falling to pieces,
flying in the brisk fall wind on a crisp day
with brilliant blue skies,
above the mast on a crab boat.

The Trident Seafoods flag
flying beneath it is not quite as worn out
you can tell it proclaims that 2013 is the 40th Anniversary of the company.

I would imagine
these flags fly in all manner of weather,
good and bad,
and the constant wind on the ocean would beat one to pieces
in a short time.

Which reminds me,
I need to replace our American Flag
that we fly on our pole as a banner,
it is faded
and beginning to fray a bit
at the edges,
too.

I’ve put off buying one,
for quite some time,
hoping they will go on sale.

They seriously need to put up a new flag and let the local VFW retire that one.
I don’t like to see our flag in that condition. I hope they are able to replace it soon. That aside, though, the photograph is very well done.
I think that ragged U.S. flag is totally against at least the flag etiquette that I grew up with. When our nation’s flag showed the least bit of wear, it had to be replaced. It was commonly taught that it was disgraceful to leave a tattered U.S. flag flying. Your post is a good reminder to us all.
Oh my! Past time to replace.
ohhhh my husband would have a fit over that flag!
Yep, definitely time to retire that old flag and get a new one!
I should just say “Me, too.” I was taught that flying a damaged American flag is disrespectful.
