Art Glass - At an Antique Mall in Burien WA

Art glass, do you love it?

:  :  :

I must confess,

I do.

I have had a fascination with nicknacks

and art glass all my life.

:  :  :

I believe I know the genesis of this life-long love.

As a little girl,

our closest neighbors were an elderly couple we called ‘Jack and Mrs. Smith.’

Jack worked with my dad for King County

and Mrs. Smith was a retired school teacher.

:  :  :

When we would walk across our pasture to visit at their house,

my mom would sit in the kitchen chatting

and drinking coffee.

I would wander quietly in the living room,

being careful to follow Mrs. Smith’s curt instruction,

‘Don’t touch anything!’

:  :  :

The east wall of the room was a long bank of tall windows

and french doors.

In other words,

there was an abundance of light.

Mrs. Smith was also a lover of art glass,

she had many nicknacks and wonderful pieces of colorful clear glass.

One item in particular

has remained a crisp memory my whole life,

that of a large clear glass bowl filled with colorful paper weights and glass balls.

:  :  :

These days,

I have quite a few pieces of art glass,

in a rainbow of colors,

I love them all,

not just pink,

or green

or blue.

:  :  :

Here,

on a recent outing with my daughter,

we stopped by an antique mall in our local town of Burien.

I couldn’t resist taking a couple shots of the light bouncing through this beautiful glass.

:  :  :

Today,

is ‘Tuesday Muse,’

over at my friend Nancy’s place, ‘A Rural Journal.’

:  :  :

I’m sorry,

I didn’t get by to visit your posts for Weekly Top Shot this past weekend,

a ministry conference kept me very busy.

I hope to see you tomorrow for

‘Rurality Blog Hop #38.

  1. Madge,
Art glass is pretty. My Great Grandma had some glass art candy dishes. I am glad you shared your memories of Jack and Mrs. Smith with us. There are so many little things that remind us of people, life experiences and places we have visited.

Hope you had a great time at the conference.
