Water tight, meaning ‘leak proof.’
: : :
Here,
on board a fishing boat tied up at Seattle’s Fishermens Terminal,
an instruction is painted on a hatch or doorway
which gives access to the bridge.
: : :
It says,
‘WATER TIGHT HATCHES KEEP CLOSED AT SEA.’
When I finished reading this concise instructional sentence,
my reaction was
‘Duh???, no kidding!’
: : :
It just seemed obvious to me
that hatches on ocean going vessels should be kept closed
and or latched while under way.
What do you think?
: : :
I am away at a ministry conference this weekend,
I’ll be a bit tardy in visiting everyone’s post.

They say rust is a photographer’s friend.
PS: Have you notice how many lawsuits there are because products are mislabeled.
Blame the courts for dumb signs.
Oh I love the rust and the angel of this shot. Yes kept tightly closed would always be my wish:) Great shot you always fing the most interesting shots. Hug B
Hi! I would use broken English too. Thank you for hosting.
We do need signs no matter how obvious they are, such as when McDonald serves hot coffee and then got sue for it because someone drank it while it was too hot..
It looks like a huge ship and a great shot Madge!
Tell that to the captain of the Titanic!
I enjoy your party here so much each week. How you come up with such great TOP SHOTS every single week is beyond me. I love ’em all…..
Thanks for hosting.
Great shot ~ yes, obvious but regulations probably dictate that it is posted ~ not everyone is as bright as you ~ and panic time can make people forget ~ just my take on the’sign’ ~ Happy Weekend to you ~ carol, xx
you live in such an interesting city
Good to notice this at get a shot of it. I agree with you. Keeping the latch closed seems an obvious thing to do at sea.
Nice shot. The sign does seem to highlight the obvious, but I guess it serves as a good reminder. Sort of like a belt + suspenders. Let’s make sure. :)
I looked at the photo and read the instructions and my first thought was as the same as yours – duh!
Love your framing as always and that sky reflection in the window!
Have a blissful weekend and enjoy your conference!
What a great shot, I like the rust and all the textures!
Isn’t it amazing that some people cannot figure these things out for themselves. ;))
It does seem obvious, but you know the old saying…”Nothing is foolproof if you have a sufficient fool.”
Yep, duh, to me also. Some more red tape to cover the fools Linda spoke of above.
Perhaps it’s on there for the newbies????? or whatever the new guys/gals are called????
Your photo makes me wish I lived near a coast.
What a great composition … love all the geometric lines. Have a nice weekend, Madge! :)
Makes perfect sense to me Madge:-)
Marvelous shot Madge.
Love all the detail in your photo!
I guess it only takes one idiot to open them though.
Beautiful picture :) Hanne Bente
This sort of find to photograph is such fun!
It makes a great abstract composition! I like it very much:)
Nicely composed shot, Madge.
So many of the signs around us are stating the obvious, but one has to think of the lowest common denominator!
Haha, well, some need extra guidelines. :))
I love the angle and the little patch of blue texture from the weathered steel at the bottom of the ship.
Your photo as well as your comments (and everyone else’s) made me smile! Nice capture…love the details.
What a great capture, I love the rust and the textures :)
You find some of the most interesting things to photograph, Madge!
I have enjoyed my visit here ,your photos are so full of light and color.

Yes, Madge, I’m with you; rather thought it was obvious. But, maybe not…unfortunately.
I always laugh at the “duh- how obvious” signs…but I have discovered that there really are some folks who need the signs.
I thought the same thing as the first comment…blame the courts. Everyone sues over everything…where some ought to be sued for having no common sense.
We are innundated by signs but, why is it so many don’t understand the simpliest one. The one sign I’d like to do away with…Right Turn On Red. OK, make the turn on red when there is NO traffic. People (at least around here) feel they need to make that right turn even when there is bumper to bumper traffic and then they are just adding to the congestion. Sorry for venting! Just got carried away with that sign. And love the ‘Titanic’ comment…you will never find me on a cruise ship! Excellent shot!
