Harvest time in the fall is always full of activity and views to whet the appetite.

To me,
there is almost nothing as delicious looking as a ripe apple
hanging on the tree.

When I was a kid in the 1950s/60s,
my family made an annual trip in the fall to the tiny eastern Washington town of Naches.
A farmer from Sweden had an orchard there
that we visited each year where my dad picked bushels of apples.
He told my sister Patti and I
that would could take as many apples from the ground as we pleased.
We did.
Then we ate them all the way home,
until we were almost sick to
our stomachs.

I still love apples,
they are my favorite fruit.

There are orchards all over in the Cascade foothills
of eastern Washington.
Of the six states that produce the most apples in the U.S.,
Washington produces 57% of the annual national harvest,
five times more than NY, the next highest producer.
: : :
In the area between Naches
and just east of the town of Yakima are places with interesting names
such as Cowiche, Tieton, and Ahtanum.
Here in the Yakima Canyon,
a delicious looking apple is ready to harvest and eat.

Today,
is ‘Tuesday Muse,’ over at my friend Nancy’s place (A Rural Journal).
See you tomorrow for ‘Rurality Blog Hop #37.’

you live in great country for them!
Mmmm … lovely!
There’s not much better than a Washington Red Delicious apple!
I succeed at taking a photo with several focal “levels” such as this one. Wonderful focus…great composition…beautiful color.
I didn’t know Washing produced the majority of the apples in the US although I always hear of Washington delicious apples!
I have been eating so many lovely crab apples off my trees. They are so ripe and sweet with just a hint of tart. They won’t all get eaten before the frost takes them.
Lovely shot!

When I go to my attic I’m going to have to check for sure I think some of my old teenage keepsakes are packed in a Washington apple cardboard box. :) My Dad loved apples and we always had some. My daughter still remembers her Pappy peeling one all the way around resulting in one long apple peel
A lovely shot! The apple itself looks like a healthy specimen.
We often buy Washington apples during the off season here — always delicious! :)
Your apple shot is making me hungry!
Beautiful shot! I worked at a small, local apple orchard for 19 years…picking apples is one of my favorite things to do on this earth!
Looks so good, Madge.
Apples…one of my favorite things about this season. Ahhhhhh, apples with cheese and a glass of wine at the end of the day…yes!
That pretty lights and colors, I love that wonderful apple …! Delicious photo!
I wish I could reach through the screen and grab that apple–it looks so good! When I was growing up, we used to go each fall to an orchard in Nelson County, Virginia, and pick Red Delicious apples. We enjoyed them so much.
Beautiful shot! I love apples/
Such a simple, clean, beautiful photo! I love apples too, and am so thankful for our little McIntosh tree.
Thanks for stopping in at Cranberry Morning. Sorry I’m not able to respond more personally to your comments via email, but when I try, I get ‘no reply blogger.’ Hope you have a wonderful fall day!
Our kids have started reaching for apples as a snack after school, and at bedtime. I enjoy going to the orchard and choosing from the many varieties that they offer! You sure live in a good place, if you enjoy them so much! :)
Gorgeous apple! I really wish we had some apple trees on our property. Maybe we can add some next year :)
Beautiful! We had a great apple harvest this year, so I’m starting to think about making some amazing apple wines.
