Caught off guard, spontaneous, surprised, unrehearsed.
: : :
Here,
at Cha:n restaurant very early one morning,
while I was walking around the Pike Place Market district,
I strolled through the courtyard of the Inn at the Market,
a ritzy four star hotel.
: : :
Looking in the window at 07:31,
I was caught visually by the repetitive lights hanging over the counter seating
and the red napkins placed precisely at each seat.
I fired off a couple shots and then when I shot this one,
the chef appeared in the kitchen doorway and voila,
magic happened.
: : :
Without the chef,
this would still have been an interesting image,
but his presence added the human element needed to make it better.

Sorry WTS is up a bit late this morning.
Work started Wednesday and the first week to week and a half of school
is so hectic and frenzied
that I am drained mentally and physically for days.
: : :
And I have had a headache in the top of my head for four days.
I think it is dehydration.
I drank a lot of water daily while I was off work.
But at work,
if I drank that much, I’d be in trouble.
We are a bit captive
(if you get my drift) in the bus
and restrooms and time to find one are not readily available on my route.
I drank a lot of water when I got up this morning
and my headache seems to be letting up.
: : :
If you have school children,
how did their
first days go?

he was probably wondering what you were doing up and about so early in the morning!
This meme is a great idea. But how hard it was to choose my favourite from the week.
Great shot – love the light configuration. Drink drink drink water – what a problem to need to drink and need to find a facility.
Our middle grandson had his first day with a male teacher (3rd grade) he reported that it was two thumbs up and looked like a good year!!!
That is good news, it is easier for kids to be successful if they like their teachers… I’ll have to try to figure a way to get more water in on work days. I used to kid my boss that one of the requirements to be a school bus driver was the ability to live in a state of dehydration…
Love the ambience in this shot!
Hope the headache has gone bow. Back to school all good thanks.
Marvelous photograph Madge.
Wonderful shot!
It is such an interesting photo – and yes the chef adds to it – making it feel more action.
Thank you for hosting.
An really great shot, at the right moment
My wishes you all the best, better new week.
Imagine you will be back in the “swing of things” before long, Madge! Love this image…would really like to be in the situation to capture it. When I saw it, I was struck by the familiarity of the situation—our oldest son, who has lived in New York for 8 years and has been a chef at a particular restaurant in Brooklyn for 4 of those years, just ended his work there to take a “sabbatical” of sorts, leading up to an extended trip to Spain next year. Right now, he’s feeling a little misplaced, as you can imagine.
How brilliant that he managed to just walk into the frame as you were taking the pic! :)
It’s a fun shot, Madge. I love it when something positive and unexpected happens. ;)
Great photo, as you say the human element adds a lot.
thanks for hosting, Madge.
As each new year begins, the key for the first month is : SURVIVAL!
Well said! :-)
An interesting condition to watch for. I like the spontaneous quality these pictures tend to have.
It pays to get out early. This is a great shot.
Just Gorgeous shot.
No school age kids here, but I remember what it was like!
Yes, delicious interior shot!
the lamps give a very nice and soft light. I like that. :)
So sorry to hear about the headaches and dehydration. The things we do to ourselves in the name of work… I do love this shot!
