Labor Day

American Flag

Labor Day, a holiday in the United States.

:  :  :

Most Americans

bookend their summer season with two long holiday weekends,

Memorial Day in May and Labor Day in September.

:  :  :

Even though

those weekends do not literally coincide with the actual turning of the seasons,

it is still marks it in a most definite way.

Labor Day in the U.S. (and Canada)

is a holiday set aside to honor working Americans,

but for most the meaning of the day is lost in BBQs, camping trips, day trips

or school shopping.

:  :  :

Just as an aside,

I do remember my mom always saying you ‘couldn’t’ wear white, white shoes or carry a white handbag after Labor Day.

Were you ever told that fashion rule

in the 1950s or

60s too?

I don’t have to worry on that account,

the only white in my wardrobe is white t-shirts

and sneakers.

  1. Yep, I remember the ‘white’ rule. If I told them to some of the ‘young ‘ns’ in the office, they’d look at me like I had three heads. LOL….I’m a big fan of ‘off white!’ Happy Labor Day to you!

  2. ha, I remember hearing that “rule”! I neither wear white shoes or white pants, dresses or skirts because I spill or bump against too many things to risk wearing white.
Labor Day…it used to mean to me that it was the last cookout and gathering of our extended family. sadly, no more. I could use a trip to the grocery, and I’d enjoy going to the two main antique shops here, but I’ve pondered the reason for Labor Day. That is, it’s intended for laborers to have a day of rest from work, so here I remain…at home.

White is too dangerous for a messy girl like me. I only wear it when I’m nowhere near dirt, regardless of the season. I don;t think anybody follows that rule anymore. In fact most of the “fashion rules” of yore are pretty much ignored today.
