At the Copa, Copacabana - Seattle's Pike Place Market

The Copacabana Cafe is a colorful eatery in the Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market.

Every time I’m at Pike Place Market

and wander down a short slice of Post Alley

I see their royal blue canvas awning, which says ‘Copa,’ above a painted red door.

Just the sight of the word ‘Copa’ cranks up the 1978 song by Barry Manilow in my mind.

You know,

‘Her name is Lola, she was a showgirl,

With yellow feathers in her hair, And a dress cut Just cut down to there.

She would merengue, And do the cha-cha…’

Here,

early in the morning about four hours before they open at 11:30,

I’ve caught the umbrellas still closed,

with flowers draping over the balcony

in flowing colors

and textures.

Today,

is ‘Random 5 Friday,’

over at my friend Nancy’s place, ‘A Rural Journal,’

where we link up a post with some facts about ourselves.

Here are my five:

(1) Willie Nelson will be in concert here on August 13, I’d LOVE to go.

(2) I bought a new camera body and am apprehensive about selling my old Pentax K10D and K7 bodies (see #3).

(3) I have never dropped a camera or lens (say a prayer, knock on wood)..

(4) I hope to make a short three day trip to the Palouse in August.

(5) Seattle is the 23rd largest U.S. city but has the 8th worst traffic congestion, I HATE driving in it!

There you go,

see you tomorrow for

‘Weekly Top Shot #94.’

  1. Do not sell your old cameras Madge! You have taken so many beautiful photos with them — and you do need a backup or two.

I’m not much into concert-going, but Omaha does get some awesome entertainers coming thru. If you want to go, go! :)

  2. I am glad you are driving in Seattle’s traffic and not me. I do remember Barry Manilow singing that song though. He was one of my old time favorites. I saw him in concert about 20 years ago.
