Almost always a challenging task around Seattle’s most popular attractions or areas.

Here last Saturday,
while out shooting around town I took a spin around Alki Beach,
wanting to capture all the colorful beach umbrellas,
I looked diligently for a parking spot.

Instead,
I crawled along in the bumper to bumper traffic
(not unusual on a sunny summer weekend) for the several mile trip around Alki Point.
There wasn’t a spot to be had.

As I approached the heart of the beach area,
I discovered it was the ‘landing’ of the Seattle Seafair Pirates,
an annual event that kicks off the month long summer celebration that culminates
in early August with the hydroplane races on Lake Washington.

As I crept along,
I saw a parking enforcement officer get out of her Cushman scooter,
deploy her bicycle and pedal off to hand out tickets to those
who were foolish enough to park illegally. Of course
I had my camera in my lap,
and while stopped for pedestrians,
I caught this shot of her making her appointed rounds.

Today,
is ‘Random 5 Friday,’
over at my friend Nancy’s place ‘A Rural Journal.’
Here are my five revealing facts:
(1) I’m still looking for that one ‘special’ Pentax lens with amazing sharpness that I can afford.
(2) On the 4th of July and New Year’s, I am a ‘watcher’ of fireworks, not a ‘lighter,’
except for a handful of occasions where I threw aside common sense and have lit a few.
(3) Both new cars I’ve ever purchased were Hondas, a 1978 Civic and my 2009 Element.
(3) I love vanilla ice cream.
(4) I like driving vehicles with stick shifts, except for holding them in place on a hill
(I might mention, Seattle has a LOT of hills.)
5) If I could buy anything I chose for my husband it would be a nice boat and a new 4×4 Ford Crewcab pickup.

I can’t imagine having to deal with that kind of traffic on a daily basis! I’m a big fan of vanilla ice cream too, but not what it does to me since I got rid of my gall bladder~
I’d hate to have her job. Friday night is THE big day and night for traffic in our city. So I try to avoid the streets that get clogged like this on Fridays. I wonder why there is the added sign with times not to park along with the parking for police only sign.
Look at the view from the rear, she could use her bike a lot more often, just saying.
I so hate city traffic! Fortunately, I don’t have to deal with that anymore since I “retired.”

Thanks for reminding me of Alki Beach. I visited the area several years ago while in Seattle. We were trying to get near the lighthouse to take photos and had a hard time finding a place to park. Finally found one and did get some great photos of it. I’m going to have to dig them out of my archives.
I’ve driven your Seattle hills in a stick shift and it scared me to death, I was 19 now I’m 63 and still drive a stick shift and am still uncomfortable stopping on hills go figure. Love vanilla ice cream…

You really captured the business of the traffic with this shot. – Whenever I’ve visited Seattle someone else is always driving because I think drivers there are either “suicidal” or “raving lunatics”.
I always tease my family when they choose plain Vanilla or Chocolate ice cream that they are being….boring! I like Vanilla but when I go for ice cream I like to try new flavors. A favorite from Baskin Robbins, Nutty Coconut.
I cannot for the life of me drive a stick shift so give me an automatic any day and I’m a happy driver.
