The Boys of Summer – Weekly Top Shot #89

Safeco Field at Dusk - Seattle WA

Baseball, an All-American pastime.

:  :  :

Here a couple years ago,

I caught Seattle’s Safeco Field at sunset.

At the time I was standing on the 12 Avenue South bridge overpassing the heavily traveled

western terminus of Interstate 90.

:  :  :

When vehicles (especially a Metro bus) would traverse the bridge it would flex underfoot,

and for someone (moi) with an overwhelming fear of heights,

making standing on it with a camera on a tripod a white-knuckle experience!

:  :  :

The glowing white letters on the stadium contrasting with the rich,

variegated pinks of the sunset behind the Olympic Mountains to the west across Elliott Bay

and the ridge which is West Seattle beyond,

makes a captivating scene.

:  :  :

Safeco Field is the stadium where our Seattle Mariners play professional baseball.

I haven’t been to a game in years.

It is simply too expensive for a casual outing.

:  :  :

I am still not getting out much for my photography,

but have seriously considered getting up before dawn several times this past week.

I think I’m just about there, just about ‘normal.’

Whatever that means.

Isn’t normal just a setting on your washer and dryer??

I’m looking forward to my early forays into the waking city and growing light of early day,

where one quickly learns ‘It’s all about the light!’

  1. Love that washer & dryer comment! Yep, normal…that’s about it. When you start thinking about getting up early to shoot, you know you’re almost there. I have a vacation week so I’m hoping to get to the local university gardens to get my fix of flowers…if time permits. The days just fly by! So glad to see you are progressing. And that photo was worth the ‘terror on the bridge.’ If I could get a shot of Yankee Stadium!

  2. The things we do for a shot!! Good on you for being so brave :)

Glad to hear you’re getting better and better, I know it won’t be long before you are back to ‘normal’ whatever that is! I can sympathize a little because I pulled my back when we were moving last week–I think I’m pretty much past the pain, but the achy part is keeping me very cautious. I figure one day I will start doing the ‘normal’ stuff and not even realize that it’s all ok. You are still in my prayers.

  3. i havent been out and about with my camera since getting back home .. and i havent been much of a good blog friend because work is so busy that on weekends i hibernate/avoid the computer/internet
