Simcoe Cafe - Goldendale WA

Classic neon cafe sign shines into the waning light of day.

Here in the small southeastern Washington of Goldendale,

the Simcoe Cafe on Main Street is a gathering place for locals and travelers on Highway 97

between Yakima to the north and the Columbia River to the south.

This neon is vintage, it reminds me a bit of a theater marquee.

I love these local cafes in the small, rural towns of Washington state.

They have the character of the community they serve,

rather than an IHop or a Denny’s Restaurant,

where they are the same here in WA as most

anywhere else in the US.

I’m joining Nancy’s ‘Random 5 Friday.’

Here are my five facts today:

1.  I love molasses on toast or biscuits.

2.  I was born in Washington state and have always lived here.

3.  Of all the vehicles I’ve driven my favorite (that I wish I still had) was a 1968 Roadrunner with a 383, factory 5-speed and a 3/4 racing cam, it was one hot car!

4.  I rode horses nearly every day while growing up, loved it!

5.  My family raised, put-by and ate our homegrown food, including meat.

I’m linking up late today with Nancy,

we spent most of the day

at doctor appointments…

necessary,

but a bit boring for my

husband and dog Lucy.

  1. My husband and I when traveling try to stop at places just like this. There’s nothing like small town cafes, and we haven’t stopped at a bad one yet. My hubby puts syrup on everything :)

I hope your doctor visit ended up “a-okay.”

I have never tried molasses on toast – or biscuits – I’ll remember to give it a go next opportunity i have.
Thank you for this wonderful post (and picture.)
