Birthday Cake
Birthdays, some think of them as blessings some as a type of curse.

:   :   :

On a normal basis,

you all know I don’t do posts about personal events or issues,

but today I felt breaking out of my ‘normal’ box just a tad.

Two events make this a special day for me.

First, it is my 63rd birthday.

I’m thankful that the Lord has blessed me with another one!

:   :   :

I know a lot of women who will not reveal their age for anything.

I’m always thinking when I cross one who won’t, ‘Really?’

:   :   :

I’ll tell you a story about that. I had a co-worker years ago who wouldn’t tell me her age.

So I asked to see her driver’s license. She took it from her wallet and held her thumb over her birthday,

she thought she had me.

But I could still read her license number.

:   :   :

In Washington state, your driver license number is twelve letters and numbers long.

It begins with seven letters (a combination of your last and first name,)

next are three numbers (like 502), followed by two letters at the end. Here’s the key to your age.

In your license number contains a formula of your birth year (two digits)

and the first two of the three numbers in the middle of your license number sequence which must add up to 100.

It is a method to check to see if a license is valid, I learned this as a bartender to find fake ids.

Often people would do a fair job of doctoring a license to make themselves look like they were twenty-one,

except they didn’t know about the fact that the birth year and the number code had to add up to 100.

So back to this co-worker,

I could see the number in her license was 53 meaning she was born in 1947.

She was ticked for a few minutes that I then knew her age, but she had a sense of humor and we laughed about it, I was sworn to secrecy. He.he.he!

:   :   :

The other ‘event’ today is pre-op for my up coming two-level cervical fusion surgery,

scheduled for next Monday the 15th.

Woot!

I’m so excited to be getting ready to get better!

So I’m just happy.happy.happy!

I would soooo love to travel there for a shoot during this time of year, but pretty far from Idaho, thirty mi. so. of Ontario…..but you know we camera people….sooooommme day…you keep up the good work…hugzz-izzz….Di…
P.S. feel same on the age issue…the big 65f for me on the 27th May

  3. Happy Birthday, Madge! Sto lat – as we say in Poland, i.e. may you live 100 years (although these days, we should probably say may you live hundred and fifty years, as 100 becomes more and more common).
    Many happy and healthy returns.

Madge, Happy Birthday and many happy wishes on your special day! Best of luck on your upcoming surgery. I had a laminectomy 9 years ago and am so happy I did, so I understand your excitement of trying to finally get well and out of pain.

Hope you had a lovely 63rd birthday. I never tried to hide my age–kind of hard when you have a son that was born when you were 20. Dead giveaway there! Good luck with your surgery and hopefully you’ll have a speedy recovery.

  6. Happy birthday my dear. 63 is a wonderful age – I remember it well. :-) As for your surgery – the best of everything – best surgeon – best results and best healing. I’m in awe and amazement after my back surgery – the pain of years is gone, I can walk barefoot again (one of my simple pleasures, but before the surgery my legs hurt too much to walk barefoot, and it appears the surgery cured that), I can sleep comfortably – oh think of all the wonderful things that will be coming your way when the surgery is complete. I have you on my calender – it will send me a reminder ever hour of your surgery day – I will be sending blessings and good thoughts to you all day.

  7. Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you…I’m singing in case you couldn’t tell. Ha, ha, ha! Hope you had a wonderful BD. And I know that feeling about upcoming surgery…I could not wait to have my broken foot operated on so I could walk from my car to my desk without crying. And after that it was putting on shoes with heels that made noise…as opposed to sneakers. I made as much noise as I could! And a NJ license also give your age in the last 5 digits with the month and year you were born but I don’t believe I’ve ever hidden my age except when I was 18 and the drinking age was 21 and we all went over to Staten Island. Of course, the year I turned 21 (the legal drinking age here at the time) they changed the drinking age to 18…timing is everything. My mom however, would never tell her age and now, as she approaches 97, she can’t remember her age. Ugh!

  8. Happy Birthday Madge!! Life is great and once you get this surgery behind you-you are going to feel better than ever~

Good Health, Much love, Laughter and Joy are my wishes for you!

    Sweet Hugs!

I enjoy checking out your blog from time to time. I also think yours and the other photo’s you display are amazing feats of photographic art. There is a purity, a sense of honesty in the shots you post that is unequaled anywhere else. One can also appreciate the knowledgeable narratives and your commitment to proper research so a viewer like myself can more fully understand what we see. The fact that you’re not too hard to look at is an added bonus! Certainly caught me in your “web”!!!

  10. I initially clicked on this one because it was so eye-catching a birthday photo. But, on reading your full post, I see that it is a big time in your life. First, congrats on your birthday. I am three years older and not a bit concerned about telling people my age. (Maybe because most people act surprised and tell me I look younger!) And, I wondered if you were getting close to your operation and I learn that it is Monday. GOOD LUCK !
