In the frigid weather, a lone pine stands, sentinel like among the sage brush.
: : :
The sky dark and foreboding,
creates a dramatic backdrop behind this lone pine tree
on a steep hillside high above the Columbia River below
and the summit of Chelan Butte Lookout above at 3,835 feet elevation.
: : :
A winding dirt road,
clings precariously to the folds of the hillsides
as it rises from the city of Chelan.
: : :
Four wheel drive vehicles are a must,
especially during the winter.
: : :
On this day,
we were within site of the summit
when snow and miry clay forced us to turn back
and return
to the safety
of the
paved
road
below.

Awww…he seems so lonely.
I LOVE “Lone Tree” shots! This one is GREAT!
The sky does indeed add drama to this shot. Beautiful!
It makes you wonder how just one tree managed to survive and not others. Wonderful shot.
It’s interesting where trees will find a place to root down. This one looks as if it’s watching over the valley below and probably has a fantastic view of the river valley. Wonderful photo!
Powerful photo ~ love the ‘sentinel’ tree ~ thanks, carol, xxx
Definitely a typical scene in those parts!
Oh, I am not too late! I cannot seem to get on schedule so miss this.
I LOVE the sky in your shot.
Beautiful little tree.
An impressing picture… and a very high mountain.
Thanks for hosting, have a nice time :-)
That’s one lonely looking tree! He needs friends. xox
I like the lone tree and the drama of the hillside. Very well done.
