Helper: noun: a person who helps someone else.
: : :
Here,
in Enumclaw WA
at the Enumclaw Sales Pavilion,
two boys,
whose father is employed as a livestock auction assistant and handler,
talk during the sale of some small goats.
: : :
Both of these boys sat out as helpers
as soon as the smaller animals were auctioned off
and the larger stock like the cattle
came in the sales ring.
: : :
The auction only lasted an hour,
as opposed when my family came here during the 1950s and 60s
to purchase calves and piglets,
the auction then was an all day affair.
: : :
Today in the Puget Sound region
there is a much smaller community
of farmers buying
and
selling stock.

Our local livestock auction is long gone so this brings back a few memories. I’m glad to see that being a handler of small beasts does not preclude one from wearing a real cowboy hat!
That looks like a lot of kidding around to me. :-)
Times change, isn’t it? I remember things from my childhood, things that were made differently and were more exciting. :)
Cute lil’ helpers at that…
They’re cuties for sure…as are the goats! It’s a dying industry, isn’t it?
What cuties those two are, and learning to be “helpers” early is a great thing.
So sweet…both sets of kids!
what cute little helpers :)
so cute.
I know where that is! Driven past there many times on my way to my sister’s house. Great photo!
Awww…such a cute photo! I’ve never been to an auction like that but it looks fun.
MADGE ~ this is such a precious photo ~ even those they ‘selling the little ones off’ ~ know it is the way of farming ~ Great shot as always ~ carol, xxx
What cute little helpers and the ‘stock’ is just the right size for them! :)
We still have livestock auctions here that are pretty well attended.
That is the sweetest image!
I love their hands on the goats, their hats, and the littlest one’s stance and the way he’s looking at his big brother.
A super candid shot!
What adorable little helpers!
When I was a kid I had little kids at home!
This reminds me of my grandfather always going to the “sale barn”. I never got to go with him, but it was a routine thing for him. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, Madge, I just totally love this shot. Great capture!
Cute little helpers and goats!
All the kids are cute ;)
Lovely pictures you show – I love the little goats :) Hanne Bente
That photo is just adorable.
Awww, the goats and the helpers are both adorable!
What good helpers. I think they’ve got the best job in the place. Those goats are so cute. Thanks for hosting, Madge.
I love this shot- how cute are these youngins!
All the kids are cute here! Love this shot…great colors, great timing!
Oh This take me back to when I had my daughter in 4H and we showed our cattle all over the place here in Canada and US.. Loved this photo. Beautiful moment.
I love candid shots like this!
So sweet!
